Something Old/Something New

I have a sketchbook full of drawings from before I began design school which I had absolutely nothing to do with. During school, I’ve learned a ton of new techniques which really pulled me away from what I had considered “my style”. This year it is my goal to develop a consistent style which marries my roots and my growth together. This is my first attempt at reviving my style with added flair. I scanned in a black and white line drawing as well as a painted canvas which were both just lying around. I then imported both scans into photoshop and used layer effects to merge the two together. I am more than pleased with the finished outcome and am very excited to continue to explore the never ending possibilities for my art and designs.

A.M. Harlow

This is A.M. Harlow. I randomly added her on Facebook one day because I thought her comments were funny on a mutual friend’s status. Little did I know how amazingly talented she is. She is a 26 year old artist based out of Indianapolis, Indiana where her father is from. Her mother is from Oklahoma. The two of them met at the Colorado Art Institute. She moved back and forth between Oklahoma and Indiana growing up. She attended Oklahoma’s Classen School of Advanced Studies for a period of time during high school. She also attended Indiana’s IUPUI for a short time, but was unimpressed by their watered-down art program.

She currently works as a graphic designer for her father and does her own art on the side. Her favorite medium is colored pencils on hardboard. She also uses graphite pencil on paper and has been experimenting with PrismaColor markers lately. She doesn’t like to stick to the same medium for too long and has been on a decoupaging-kick. She regularly posts pieces which she is working on. Anytime I see them, half of me wants to give up completely and half of me wants to try that much harder.
